SEOUL, Korea, Jan. 22, 2002 -- Japan’s leading business newspaper, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun – known as the Nikkei because of its stock market index – has selected the Hyundai XG as the “Most Remarkable Product” to enter Japan’s automotive sector during 2001.
Selected from all vehicles new to the Japanese market during the year, the Nikkei’s specialist automotive staff judged the Hyundai XG as providing remarkable blend of quality, performance, environmental awareness, convenience, competency and value.
First year on the market
Although Hyundai products experienced a slow start during their first year on the Japanese market, sales picked up strongly during the last quarter and the company sold almost as many units in December as it had in the first six months.
With more than one thousand vehicles sold in one of the world’s most competitive and difficult new car markets, Hyundai Motor is looking to continue its development in Japan. The company’s support as official automotive partner for the 2002 FIFA World Cup is also expected to increase awareness of the brand amongst Japanese motorists.
